Historical news about this contribution
Background and objective
Introducing AI changes more than a technical application. Responsibilities, workflows, skills and participation need to fit together. KI-ULTRA investigated this organisational transformation with companies, connecting research at Fraunhofer IAO and the University of Stuttgart with company laboratories. The complete historical graphic shows the project context, funding information and participating organisations.
Approach and context
Published outputs include a guide to strategy and change, a guide to running AI projects and an Evaluation Toolkit. These connect organisational readiness with the practical delivery of a specific initiative. Objectives, participation and evaluation can be addressed alongside the selection and introduction of a technical solution.
Hawk’s contribution
Hawk participated in KI-ULTRA with workforce and shift planning as its application context. In the KI-ULTRA project, funded by the KI-Observatorium (AI Observatory), Fraunhofer IAO, the University of Stuttgart and company labs examined transformation processes for introducing AI. The project produced guidelines and an evaluation toolkit.
In October 2026, Cedric Oette talked with Dr. Jan-Paul Leuteritz about the experience gained in KI-ULTRA in the Fraunhofer podcast “Bridging Innovation”. The news item Fraunhofer podcast: Introducing AI, but how? summarizes the conversation.
What this means in practice
For planning teams, the connection between technology and work organisation is especially useful. Tasks, responsibilities and evaluation criteria can be described before implementation, while feedback from everyday work informs the introduction. The historical graphic records the collaboration at that time; its organisation marks belong to the research project and its documented context.
